It was a busy weekend for the Aftershock Fastpitch softball program as all three teams were in action in Jefferson, Ohio at the J-Town Showdown. Playing just 11 miles West of Aftershock’s home fields in Pierpont, 14u Frasure, 12u Young and 12u Addair all took the field with differing amounts of success.
“It was a unique experience having all three teams in action all at once,” said Aftershock’s President, Jake Hudson. “As Ashtabula County’s only travel softball program, we feel that this was a great way to showcase our organization’s growth and long-term strength to the local community.”
Aftershock 14u Frasure goes extra innings in bracket play
Facing Ohio Energy’s 13u Gowdy team, Aftershock 14u Frasure fell behind 5-0 early and 7-0 after 3 as they fought back the entire game. A spark of offense in the top of the 4th inning made it 7-3 when Lily Walker hit a 2-run single and Maddie Drew drove in a run, but the rally was not enough in a 7-3 loss. The ladies bounced back by scoring a 16-1 win over the Hit N Run Heat team as Nadia Lagoa and Julia Sprague both had multiple hits and RBI and Riley Frasure went 3-3 with 2 RBI of her own. Caidyn Siegel picked up the win striking out 7 in 3 innings before the rains came just as their next game started.
With weather impacting the seeding, Aftershock 14u scored the #4 seed to face #3 Ohio Blast 08 to open Sunday morning. Wit the game knotted at 6 after four innings, they went to the International Tie Breaker rules and fell 8-7 in the end. Maddie Drew and Sidney Miller both scored a pair of hits and Miller drove in 3 runs on the day as the ladies were eliminated from the J-Town Showdown.
Aftershock 12u Young takes #1 seed, falls in semifinals
Aftershock 12u Young started the weekend off on a high note, knocking 13 hits in a 12-0 victory over Mentor Big Red 2k11 on Friday night. Hannah Young celebrated her birthday throwing 28 pitches and 22 strikes in 2 innings to earn an MVP medal, and Kaelyn Castle threw 1 inning in a combined perfect game for the two pitchers. The ladies were led by Peyton Hudson’s 4 RBI as Hudson, Elizabeth Jernigan, Kaelyn Castle, Lauren Britton and Keira Wilkinson all had 2 hits on the day.
On Saturday, Aftershock 12u Young opened the morning with a 3-2 nail-biter of a win over Ohio Energy 2011. Jernigan once again scored 2 hits and drove in what turned out to be the game winning run, and a diving catch in right field by Britton earned her the MVP medal. Peyton Hudson allowed just 3 hits while striking out 9 in 4 innings to get the win.
The ladies started off Sunday morning strong defeating their friends and many former teammates from Aftershock 12u Addair 12-0 in a 3-inning gam to start the day as Castle hurled a no-hit shutout, walking one. Hannah Young, Aislyn Fuller and Addison Paul all had multiple hits as Young drove in 4 runs. The win advanced Aftershock 12u Young to the semifinals to face Thunder Elite Yanucci where the teams battled one another in a classic. Elizabeth Jernigan reached base and eventually scored both times she came to the plate and Peyton Hudson smashed a 2-run single and had a sacrifice fly to drive in 3 runs, but Thunder Elite’s 5-runs in the first two innings were enough to hold on for a 5-4 win and end the day for the organization.
Aftershock 12u Addair continues team’s growth
Aftershock 12u Addair joined the action at the Ohio Energy Tournament in Jefferson as they got a taste of some higher end competition at the J-Town Showdown. The ladies dropped their first game to the eventual champions, Willoughby Starzz 11u – Eck, then fought hard against Thunder Elite Yanucci in a 6-5 loss. A loss to the Oil Valley Lightning gave Aftershock 12u Addair the #4 seed and setup a match-up with 12u Young where they were eliminated.
On the weekend the bats were cooled by some fantastic pitching, but the team was led in hitting by Bella Brent, Izzy Anslow, Summer Addair and Allie.
