Aftershock 12u Young takes 2nd seed in Pool play, heads into Bracket play on Sunday

Aftershock 12u Young started the weekend off on Friday night with a game and continued on Saturday with two more games to round out Pool play and heads into Bracket play. Playing in the Thunder Elite – Perfect Storm tournament in Hubbard, Ohio, Aftershock brought home the #2 seed from Pool G with a win and a loss in Pool play and next plays at 8 am on Sunday morning.

While the weekend had its ups and downs, Friday night was one of the downs. Playing shorthanded, the ladies struggled to get their bats going in a 9-0 loss to West Hills 12u – Guntrum, the eventual #1 seed from Pool E. However, they bounced back on Saturday morning with a 5-3 win over AC River’s Fury. With the score knotted at 2-2 in the top of the 5th inning, Elizabeth Jernigan walked, stole second and advanced to third when Hannah Young also walked. Peyton Hudson followed with a hard ground ball with the infield in that resulted in a defensive error and brought both runners in. Hudson picked up a SB, then advanced to third and later scored on Aislyn Fuller’s groundout to give the ladies a 5-2 lead as they held on for the win. The win sealed the #2 seed from Pool G to setup a matchup with Silver Creek – Pelto 11u, the #3 seed from Pool E, on Sunday morning at 8 am.

On Sunday morning, Aftershock 12u Young took on a tough Silver Creek – Pelto 11u team that they faced back in March and lost to 4-0. While the Aftershock ladies were able to get the bat on the ball better in this game smacking out 5 hits, a 4-run 5th inning propelled Silver Creek to a 8-2 win to end the weekend.

Weekend highlights on the mound included Peyton Hudson with 12 strikeouts in 9 innings pitched going 1-1 and Hannah Young with 8 strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings going 0-1 with a save. At the plate, Elizabeth Jernigan led the team with 4 hits, 3 runs scored and 2 steals while Kailee Reynolds added 3 hits, 2 steals and an RBI triple on her birthday. In addition, Peyton Hudson added 4 rbi, Hannah Young drove in 2 runs and Lauren Martin added a 2-hit game against AC River’s Fury.
