Aftershock Fastpitch 12u Young wins two before falling to eventual champs, 3-2

Aftershock Fastpitch 12u Young had a strong showing over Memorial Day weekend at the Salute to Service tournament scoring two wins in four games. After opening Saturday morning with a 6-1 win over the Maddogs, a rough 1st inning against the North Coast Crushers provided a deficit the ladies could not overcome in a 5-3 loss to complete the team’s pool play.

Coach Amy Young’s team bounced back on Sunday morning with a 4-3 win over the Ohio Stampede to as Callie McGuire and Aislyn Fuller had 2 hits apiece as the team went 7-14 at the plate as a team. With Mentor’s own Ohio Varsity Vipers up next in the quarterfinals, Aftershock Fastpitch 12u Young had their hands full, falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st inning. After tying the game in the top of the 4th, the Vipers scored the decisive go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning to advance the the championship game that they won over the North Coast Crushers, 7-4.

Aftershock Fastpitch 12u Young was led on the weekend by Elizabeth Jernigan with 4 hits in 7 at-bats, 3 runs scored and 8 steals. Hannah Young led the team on the mound picking up both wins with 9.2 innings pitched, striking out 15 and allowing just 2 earned runs over the weekend.
