Undefeated Saturday earns Aftershock Fastpitch 14u the top seed in bracket play at May Madness

Aftershock Fastpitch 14u was on fire on Saturday scoring three straight wins to earn the #1 seed in Sunday’s bracket play at May Madness in New Middletown, Ohio.

The days started off with a game against the Ohio Blast as the Aftershock ladies trailed 3-2 after three innings. A double by Nadia Lagoa tied the game in the 4th, then Maddie Drew drove in Jayla Holloway in the top of the 5th and Lily Walker’s sac fly added an insurance run as Peyton Hudson pitched the team to victory. Hudson was efficient over 5 innings on the mound allowing just 5 hits and 2 earned runs in the win, while Walker led the team with 2 RBI.

In the second game Aftershock jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the 1st inning and did not look back in defeating the Golden Grizzlies 8-3 in 4 innings of play. Maddie Drew was once again an offensive star slugging a homer and going 3-3 with 3 RBI while Sidney Miller stole 3 bases and scored two runs and Peyton Hudson had 2 hits of her own. Caiden Siegel picked up the win on the mound as she and Kailee Reynolds combined to allow zero earned runs in the win.

In the final game of the day, with the top seed in the tournament on the line, the ladies came out strong scoring 8 runs in the first two innings en route to a 16-4 win. Maddie Drew completed the day of a lifetime going 3-4 with 3 runs score and 2 RBI, and Sidney Miller went 4-4 at the plate scoring 4 runs and driving in 4 of her own. The Aftershock ladies totaled 12 hits in the game as Siegel and Hudson pitched and they cruised to victory and earned the #1 seed.

While weather rained out the team’s chance to win the tournament on Sunday, Maddie Drew’s hitting was the biggest highlight on Saturday as she went 7-10 with 5 runs scored, 6 rbi, 2 doubles, a triple, 2 homeruns and 3 stolen bases in the three games combined.
